To make human connection as easy as opening an app.
The stats are staggering. Over 50% of Americans report feeling lonely on a regular basis. Yet we carry in our pockets devices capable of locating anyone within a mile radius who shares our interests and is free right now.
The technology to solve loneliness has existed for years. What was missing was the intention to use it that way. Instead, every major social platform optimized for engagement — likes, shares, outrage — anything that kept you on the app longer.
SocialIRL exists to break that loop. We built an app that succeeds when you put it down — when you're actually sitting across from another human being, sharing a meal or a laugh or a walk in the park.
Why we built this
I moved from Kenya to Boston at 18. I had a job, I had a routine — but outside of work, I barely knew anyone. I'd scroll through my phone for hours and still feel completely alone in a city of millions. I kept thinking: the technology to fix this already exists. Someone just needs to actually build it for real life, not for likes. So I did.
