Your safety is our
top priority.
Meeting strangers takes courage. We honor that by building the most comprehensive safety system of any social app — period.
How we protect you
Built-In Safety Features
Trusted Contact System
Before every hangout, you designate a trusted person — a friend, family member, or anyone you trust. SocialIRL automatically shares your live location with them the moment your hangout begins, and sends an all-clear notification when you check out. If you miss your check-out time by more than 15 minutes, they receive an alert automatically.
Verified Venue Partners
Hundreds of cafés, restaurants, bookstores, and public spaces across our partner cities have been reviewed and verified by our team. Hangouts at verified venues carry a green badge — you know the staff is aware, the space is public, and the environment has been checked. We vet every venue on safety, accessibility, and staff responsiveness.
Report & Block
One tap to report any user, hangout, or message. Our trust and safety team reviews every report within 2 hours — not bots, real humans. Reported users are immediately restricted from contacting you while under review. Confirmed violations result in permanent bans. Zero tolerance for harassment, threats, or hate.
Women-Only Hangouts
Any user who verifies as a woman can create or join women-only hangouts. Verification uses a combination of phone number validation and periodic review. Men who attempt to join women-only spaces are immediately removed and flagged. This feature was built with extensive input from our women users and safety advisors.
Location Fuzzing
Your exact home or work address is never shown to other users. When your location is displayed on the discovery map, it's fuzzed to a 500-meter radius. You only share a precise meeting location once you've approved someone to join — and only for the hangout location, never your personal address.
SOS Alert
One tap on the SOS button instantly sends your GPS location to your trusted contact with an alert message. This is a personal safety alert — it does not contact 911 or emergency services. If you are in immediate danger, always call 911 directly.

Safety Tips for Meeting Strangers
The app does a lot. But your personal awareness is always your first line of defense. Here's what we recommend.
Meet in public first
Always meet at the listed public venue for your first hangout with someone new. Never agree to a hangout that starts at a private residence.
Tell someone where you're going
Use our Trusted Contact feature — it does this automatically. But even outside the app, tell a friend your plans before you go.
Keep your own transportation
Drive yourself or take your own rideshare to and from the hangout. Never rely on a new person to get you home.
Check their profile first
Review the profile, join date, past activity, and community reviews before approving someone. Trust your gut.
Keep personal info close
Don't share your address, workplace, or last name in-app chat until you've met in person and established trust.
Report anything that feels off
You don't need to be sure something is wrong. If it feels off, report it. Our team would rather investigate ten false alarms than miss a real one.
Our Community Standards
SocialIRL is a platform built on trust. Every user agrees to our Community Standards when they sign up. These are non-negotiable.
Violations are reviewed by our human trust and safety team — not automated systems. We take context into account. We also take safety seriously. When in doubt, we act on the side of protecting the potential victim.
